What was done

Older adults were assigned to sustained engagement interventions over a period of 3 months to evaluate impacts on cognitive function. Participants in three productive-engagement conditions learned quilting, digital photography, or both, spending an average of 16.51 hours per week on these novel, cognitively demanding tasks. These were compared against receptive-engagement control conditions involving either nonintellectual social group activities or low-demand cognitive tasks without social contact.

What was found
