What was done

Rats underwent surgical sharp transection of the Achilles tendon from the calcaneal bone. Animals received daily intraperitoneal injections of BPC 157 (10 µg, 10 ng, or 10 pg/kg), 6alpha-methylprednisolone (1 mg/kg), saline control (0.9% NaCl, 5 mL/kg), or combinations thereof, starting 30 minutes post-surgery. Outcomes were evaluated at days 1, 4, 7, 10, 14, and 21 post-injury via the Achilles functional index (AFI), biomechanical testing (load to failure, stiffness, Young's modulus), histology, and immunohistochemistry.

What was found
