Electroencephalographic (EEG) recordings during sleep were used to measure REM sleep duration and prefrontal theta activity, which were examined for associations with emotional memory consolidation.

Directionally, participants in the nap group showed a significant consolidation benefit for negative emotional memories but not neutral memories. The no-nap control group showed no consolidation benefit for either memory type.
