Data were analyzed from the first three waves of the National Longitudinal Study of Adolescent Health (Add Health), a nationally representative cohort followed from grades 7–12 (beginning in 1995) into young adulthood (ages 18–27). The sample comprised 7,157 males and 7,997 females. Multi-level modeling was used to assess the association between biological father incarceration and trajectories of past 30-day marijuana frequency and other illicit drug use, controlling for family, parental, and individual characteristics.
