Investigators tested the molecular mechanisms and immunoprotective actions of two dipeptides, AB-O (Vilon) and its analogue R-1, in cultured human and rat thymic cells, evaluating lymphocyte differentiation markers.
What was found
The abstract reports no numerical data, baseline values, effect sizes, or p-values. Qualitatively, both dipeptides increased the expression of the CD5 differentiation marker in thymic cells. AB-O promoted precursor differentiation toward CD4+ T-helper cells with weaker activity than R-1. Dipeptide R-1 stimulated the differentiation of CD5+ cells into mature CD4+ T-helper cells and CD8+ cytotoxic T cells.

The findings describe potential in vitro pathways through which short peptide analogues may influence early T-cell maturation and immune response regulation.
