What was done

A within-subjects laboratory study tested the effects of light pulses delivered through closed eyelids during sleep in 16 subjects. During the phase delay portion of the circadian phase response curve, participants were exposed to a dark control night and three 1-hour light conditions: (1) 2-second flashes of blue light (111 W/m², λmax ≈ 480 nm) once per minute, (2) continuous green light (131 W/m², λmax ≈ 527 nm), and (3) 2-second flashes of the same green light once per minute. Circadian phase shift and nocturnal melatonin suppression were evaluated.

What was found
