Meta-analysis of 293 published articles comparing trait variability between male mice and female mice tested without regard to estrous cycle stage. The analysis evaluated variability across behavioral, morphological, physiological, and molecular endpoints, as well as the impact of group housing.

Variability was not significantly greater in unstaged female mice compared to male mice for any evaluated endpoint, and males showed substantially greater variability for several traits.
