What was done

Researchers tested intuitive versus reflective decision-making using a series of one-shot ultimatum games. They manipulated the degree of offer unfairness across five split ratios (50:50, 60:40, 70:30, 80:20, and 90:10) and enforced varying pre-response time delays (1s, 2s, 8s, and 15s). Decision response times following the enforced delays were also measured to assess whether intuitive responses are moderated by the severity of unfairness.

What was found

The abstract reports directional findings without exact numerical statistics, percentages, or participant numbers. When facing mildly unfair offers (60:40), participants were fast to accept (cooperate), but with longer enforced delays, they rejected these mildly unfair offers. Conversely, for severely unfair offers (90:10), the intuitive and fast response was consistently to reject.
