What was done

Sexually potent male rats were tested in copulation paradigms with receptive females after receiving selective dopamine D4 receptor agonists (PD-168,077 at 0.05-0.2 mg/kg s.c. or ABT-724 at 0.01-0.04 mg/kg s.c.) or a selective D4 receptor antagonist (L-745,870 at 1-5 mg/kg i.p.). Effects were compared with the non-selective dopamine agonist apomorphine and antagonist haloperidol, and antagonist pre-treatment was tested against both D4 agonists.

What was found

The abstract reports directional behavioral effects without exact numbers or statistical metrics. PD-168,077 decreased mount frequency and post-ejaculatory intervals. ABT-724 decreased mount frequency, ejaculation latency, post-ejaculatory intervals, and inter-intromission intervals. Both agonists increased ejaculation frequency and copulatory efficacy. L-745,870 dose-dependently increased intromission latency, ejaculation latency, mount frequency, and post-ejaculatory intervals while decreasing ejaculation frequency and copulatory efficacy. Pretreatment with L-745,870 (5 mg/kg) completely abolished the facilitatory effects of both agonists.
