The abstract reports no quantitative values. Lymph propulsion requires synchronized lymphatic muscle cell contraction waves across lymphangions and functional intraluminal valves, regulated by preload, afterload, spontaneous contraction rate, contractility, and neural inputs. Muscle contractile failure, barrier defects, and valve dysfunction are identified as shared features in inherited and acquired lymphedema, as well as obesity, metabolic syndrome, and inflammatory bowel disease.
