What was done

Evaluated three models of adaptive thermogenesis across energy expenditure compartments in 17 inpatient individuals with obesity. Resting energy expenditure (REE) and non-resting energy expenditure (NREE) were measured at usual weight, and subsequently after maintaining a 10% and a 20% weight loss.

What was found

The abstract reports no numerical values or exact statistics. Following a 10% weight loss, both REE and NREE dropped significantly below predicted values based on lost mass and composition. An additional 10% weight loss resulted in further reductions below predicted values for NREE, but not for REE. Changes in body weight, composition, and energy stores significantly correlated with changes in energy expenditure.
