What was done

In two laboratory experiments, first-year university students (studying psychology or family studies) completed an AB-AC inference task using curriculum-based materials. Participants first learned an AB association (word-picture) and then an AC association (word-description), linked by a common unknown word (A). Associations between B and C were either congruent or incongruent. During AC learning, participants were instructed to actively reactivate picture B and report their subjective reactivation strength. Associative memory integration (BC) was tested by cueing with description C and asking participants to freely describe picture B.

What was found

The abstract reports no numerical data, confidence intervals, or test statistics. It states that active reactivation of B and congruency each significantly enhanced associative memory scores for inferred BC associations across both experiments, and that subjective meta-memory ratings showed the same significant enhancements.
