The American College of Sports Medicine convened an International Multidisciplinary Roundtable on Exercise and Cancer in March 2018 to evaluate biological and epidemiological evidence regarding physical activity and sedentary behavior across cancer prevention, treatment, and control.

Qualitatively, physical activity is reported to be beneficial for preventing breast, colon, endometrial, kidney, bladder, esophageal, and stomach cancers. Minimizing sedentary behavior was linked to lower risk of endometrial, colon, and lung cancers. Physical activity was associated with an increased risk of melanoma. In survivorship, physical activity before and after diagnosis was linked to improved survival for breast and colon cancer, with post-diagnosis activity showing greater mortality benefit than pre-diagnosis activity.
