The abstract reports no quantitative values or statistical metrics. Mechanistically, vitamin D receptors and their regulatory enzymes are expressed in brain regions controlling sleep, and vitamin D is involved in melatonin synthesis pathways. Vitamin D also relates indirectly to sleep quality via non-specific pain conditions, restless legs syndrome, and obstructive sleep apnea syndrome. However, the authors conclude that evidence supporting vitamin D supplementation to treat or prevent sleep disorders remains scant.
