This narrative review synthesized literature on cow's milk and dairy components (including whey, casein, saturated/unsaturated/trans fats, phospholipids, calcium, vitamin D, and probiotics) regarding cardiometabolic health, cardiovascular disease (CVD), and type 2 diabetes (T2D). It examined the dairy food matrix, food processing effects, observational studies, randomized controlled trials (RCTs), and major dietary guidelines.

What was found

The abstract reports no numerical values, effect sizes, or confidence intervals. Directionally, observational studies and meta-analyses show neutral or inverse associations between dairy consumption (including yogurt and high-fat cheese) and T2D or CVD risk, suggesting the whole food matrix may mitigate potential harms of saturated fatty acids. However, large-scale, long-duration RCTs with primary endpoints of incident CVD or T2D are absent.

Why it matters
