Caffeine acutely enhances performance across multiple modalities, providing small-to-moderate benefits for muscular endurance, strength, movement velocity, sprinting, jumping, and throwing, with the most consistent moderate-to-large benefits seen in aerobic endurance. Ergogenic effects are consistently observed at doses of 3–6 mg/kg body mass ingested ~60 minutes pre-exercise, with minimal effective doses potentially as low as 2 mg/kg, while very high doses (~9 mg/kg) increase side effects without extra benefit. Caffeine remains effective in trained and untrained individuals, under sleep deprivation, and during heat (3–6 mg/kg) or altitude exposure (4–6 mg/kg). Alternative formats (gum, gels, energy drinks) also show efficacy. No statistical point estimates or effect sizes with confidence intervals were reported in the abstract.
