What was done

A comparative study evaluated 60 women: 30 with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) and 30 controls without PCOS. On cycle day five, participants were assessed for serum anti-Müllerian hormone (AMH), glucose, fasting insulin, HOMA-IR, body mass index (BMI), testosterone, cholesterol, lipoproteins, and triglycerides.

What was found

AMH serum levels showed a twofold increase in the PCOS group compared to the control group. Significant increases in the PCOS group were also reported for fasting insulin (+83.86%), HOMA-IR (+64.23%), mean cholesterol (+30%), BMI (+26.75%), testosterone (+18.4%), fasting blood glucose (+18%), and mean triglycerides (+17%) (all p < 0.005). Numerical data for antral follicle counts were not reported in the abstract.

Why it matters

The study shows that elevated AMH levels in PCOS closely track with worsening metabolic and androgenic profiles, reinforcing AMH's role as a clinical marker for endocrine and metabolic dysfunction in this population.

Limits

The sample size is small (n = 60 total). Despite the title and conclusions referencing antral follicle count and OHSS prediction, quantitative values or prospective validation data for these endpoints were not reported in the abstract.
