Liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) was used to measure the migration of 2 perfluorinated compounds (PFCs) and 17 primary aromatic amines (PAAs) from 35 PTFE-coated non-stick cookware samples marketed in Turkey. The authors evaluated the effects of food simulant volume (200, 500, and 1000 mL), temperature, and consecutive repeated uses on the release of these compounds.
What was found
PFOA was detected in 6 of the 35 cookware samples, while the other tested PFC was not identified. Among PAAs, aniline was detected in all 35 samples and 4,4'-methylenedianiline (4,4'-MDA) was detected in 4 samples. Target compounds were identified in 200 mL and 500 mL simulant volumes, with concentrations declining as simulant volume increased. Migration peaked at higher temperatures and decreased over consecutive usage cycles. Exact numeric concentrations are not reported in the abstract.
