A systematic review and meta-analysis of cohort studies was conducted via PubMed and EMBASE searches through March 2022 to examine the relationship between cruciferous vegetable consumption and bladder cancer risk. The authors calculated pooled relative risks (RRs) comparing highest versus lowest intake categories and conducted linear dose-response meta-analyses for intake increments of 10 g/day and 1 serving/week.

What was found

Highest versus lowest cruciferous vegetable intake was not significantly associated with reduced bladder cancer risk (RR = 0.92, 95% CI 0.80–1.06). Linear dose-response meta-analysis showed no statistically significant reduction per 10 g/day increment (P = 0.106) or 1 serving/week increment (P = 0.147). No significant publication bias was detected (Begg's P = 0.386; Egger's P = 0.253).
