What was done
The authors investigated how the interaction between regulatory focus (promotion vs. prevention) and motivational direction (approach vs. avoidance) affects creative performance (idea fluency and elaboration) and participant experience during creativity workshops. Study 1 assessed measured regulatory focus and approach/avoidance motivation using multi-level analyses in 172 participants. Study 2 used an experimental design with 112 participants, measuring baseline regulatory focus and then manipulating approach versus avoidance motivational framing during creativity workshops.
What was found
