What was found
In Study 1, parents reported higher estimates of genetic influence for weight, obesity, and type 2 diabetes than non-parents, with no effect of child count; women endorsed genetic causes more strongly than men. In the meta-analysis (Study 2), parenthood was associated with a small but statistically significant increase in genetic attributions for lifestyle diseases (Hedges' g = 0.11, p = .007). The gender interaction identified in Study 1 did not replicate in the meta-analysis.
Why it matters
