The Acute and Chronic Effects of Superset Resistance Training Versus Traditional Resistance Training-A Narrative Review.

The abstract reports that supersets reduce session duration by ~50% compared with TRAD, but provides no other numerical data. Acutely, muscle activation and volume were similar between modalities, power was higher in TRAD, and training density, metabolic markers (lactate, oxygen consumption, energy expenditure, heart rate), hormonal responses, and perceived exertion were higher in supersets. Chronically, supersets and TRAD elicited similar adaptations for endurance, hypertrophy, power, and strength.
Why it matters
Supersets appear to offer a time-efficient alternative to traditional lifting, delivering comparable muscular adaptations in about half the time and addressing a primary barrier to resistance training participation.
Limits
