What was done
Adult participants recruited via an online opportunity sample completed self-report measures of adult attachment dimensions (anxiety and avoidance), sleep hygiene, and sleep quality. Multiple regression and mediation analyses examined whether sleep hygiene mediated associations between attachment dimensions and sleep quality after statistically controlling for age, sex, anxious and depressed mood, and fatigue.
What was found
The abstract reports no numerical values, sample sizes, or effect sizes. Higher scores on both attachment anxiety and attachment avoidance were associated with poorer sleep hygiene and poorer sleep quality. Sleep hygiene partially mediated the relationships between both insecure attachment dimensions and sleep quality.
Why it matters
This study identifies sleep hygiene behaviors as a potential behavioral pathway linking adult attachment insecurity to degraded sleep quality.
Limits
The abstract provides no sample size or numerical data. The cross-sectional design prevents establishing causality or the true temporal sequence of mediation. The study relies on convenience sampling and self-reported measures rather than objective sleep assessments.
