Retrospective comparative analysis of mortality among prominent historical psychedelic personalities, researchers, and advocates with reported psychedelic use (n = 11), compared with cohorts of cancer researchers (n = 12) and aging researchers (n = 5).
What was found
The abstract reports no exact lifespan figures, hazard ratios, or statistical test values. Qualitatively, all three groups exceeded general population life expectancy, but psychedelic personalities did not outlive cancer or aging researchers.
Why it matters
Cautions against extrapolating rodent lifespan findings to humans, showing that longevity among prominent psychedelic figures is likely explained by socioeconomic advantage rather than drug effects.
Limits
Extremely small sample size (total n = 28 across three groups), severe selection bias from selecting famous figures, retrospective design, lack of verified exposure details (dose, frequency, specific psychedelics used), and absence of adjustment for confounders.
