Qualitatively, epidemiological studies showed regular exercise is perceived to improve sleep quality and reduce daytime sleepiness. Larger magnitude effects were reported for reductions in REM sleep and delays in REM onset latency. Exercise was also associated with phase delays in circadian pacemaker markers.
